Education Without Barriers (EWB) is an endeavour to bring together like minded people interested in sharing their skills, knowledge and promoting education in pain medicine. This is a non profit establishment aimed at promoting patient welfare, safe practices and pain education. International Association for Study of Pain (IASP) has designated 2018 as Global Year for Excellence in Pain education and although not liked directly, this is a step in the same direction.
The idea stemmed from the struggle I had to undertake to find a mentor for my Post Graduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound course at University of East London. The motivation behind my enrolling for the course was to be able to offer diagnostic scans and interventions to patients at their first clinic visit thus reducing their journey times and suffering. It was incredibly hard to find a mentor and for a long time it seemed like I would not be able to complete the course. It was then I had decided to create a platform to help professionals interested in enhancing their skills and working for patient welfare. A platform not limited by barriers of medical specialties, societies, personal interests, ego etc but with the aim of enhancing education and working towards mitigating patient suffering and hence the name Education Without Barriers.
I feel happy that this is turning into reality and this forum has brought together like minded professionals. I hope that this becomes a productive platform for all members to be able to contribute and work towards the common goal of spreading education and working towards patient welfare.
